Libra!

Posted: September 27, 2009 in Malaysia Today, Raja Petra Kamarudin, Uncategorized

Its my birthday tomorrow and I cant believe it that I’m 53 and been here since 1956. Needs an award for this.

So its Libra time again, September 23 – October 22.

They say Libras are notoriously diplomatic, as they are on both sides of the fence. Libras are peaceful, kind, charming, easy-going and romantic. On the negative side, they say Libras can be indecisive (I don’t know if this is true?).

Famous Libras include Michael Douglas – September 25, my buddy Raja Petra – September 27, Myself – September 28, John Lennon – October 9, Luciano Pavarotti – October 12, and my other buddy John Richard Jayasuriya also a Libra.

(I could’nt resist this “SUNSET OVER TANJUNG ARU BEACH, KOTA KINABALU”)

The sun, a star at the centre of the solar system, is known to provide ideal conditions for life to thrive on Earth. But, astronomers have claimed that it also leaves the planet wide open to harmful cosmic rays.

A joint team from University of Arizona and University of Texas in the US has found that the sun periodically leaves Earth open to assaults from interstellar nasties in a way that most stars do not, the ‘New Scientist’ reported.

The sun protects humans from cosmic rays and dust from beyond the solar system by enveloping in the heliosphere — a bubble of solar wind that extends past Pluto. These rays would damage the ozone layer and interstellar dust can dim sunlight and trigger an ice age.

However, when the solar system passes through very dense gas and dust clouds, the heliosphere can shrink until its edge is inside Earth’s orbit. So, in their research, the team, led by David Smith, has calculated the squeezing of various stars’ protective “astrospheres”.

Often it is said that alcohol goes to one’s head really fast. But, guess how fast? In just six minutes, say researchers.

A new study by Heidelberg University has found that six minutes after consuming the equivalent of three glasses of beer or two goblets of wine, changes actually start taking place in people’s brain cells.

It has also shown that men’s and women’s brains react to alcohol consumption the same way and the harmful effects of alcohol on the brain might be shortlived, but over time cells take longer to repair themselves.

The researchers have based their findings on an analysis of an experiment in which eight male and seven female volunteers took part and drank a specified amount of alcohol through a 90cm-long straw while lying in a MRI brain scanner, ‘The Daily Telegraph’ reported.

The goal was to reach a blood alcohol content of 0.05 to 0.06 per cent — a level that impairs ability to drive, but does not induce severe intoxication.

Using a scanner, the scientists examined the tiny changes in brain cell tissue structure caused by the alcohol in tests which previously had only been done on animals and found that the drinks took six minutes to reach their brains.

Lead researcher Armin Biller said chemical substances that normally protect brain cells are reduced as concentration of alcohol increases. Other components of brain cells were also cut as more alcohol was consumed.

“Our follow-ups on the next day showed that the shifts in brain metabolites after moderate consumption of alcohol by healthy persons are completely reversible. However, we assume the brain’s ability to recover from alcohol effect decreases or is eliminated as the consumption of alcohol increases.

“The acute effects demonstrated in our study could possibly form the basis for the permanent brain damage that is known to occur in alcoholics. This should be clarified in future studies,” he said.

The findings are published in the ‘Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism’.

A lesbian couple who led the fight for gay marriage in Massachusetts has filed for divorce. Julie and Hillary Goodridge were among seven gay couples who filed a lawsuit that led to a court ruling making Massachusetts the first state to legalize same-sex marriages in 2004. The couple became the public face of the debate in the state and married the first day same-sex marriages became legal.

The divorce case was filed last week in Suffolk Probate and Family Court and was not unexpected. The couple announced they were separating in 2006.

Gardening boosts men's sex lives, claims study

Need to spice up your sex lives? Just take up gardening. Taking up gardening as a hobby is a good way of achieving a healthy lifestyle. And now a new study has found that the noble activity can also boost a man’s sex life.

Researchers at the Medical University of Vienna have carried out the study and found that tending the garden for as little as half-an-hour a week can dramatically improve a man’s performance in bed, the ‘European Urology’ journal reported.

According to them, digging, weeding or mowing the lawn for 30 minutes could reduce a man’s chances of failing to live up to expectations in bed by more than a third while those who spend more time can more than halve their risk of impotence.

“Erectile function can be maintained even by low, regular physical activity. Energy expenditure of as little as 1,000 calories a week reduces the risk. Doctors should use the findings to encourage patients to do more physical training and adopt a healthier lifestyle,” the researchers said.

In fact, the study found that men do not have to be keep-fit fanatics to reap the benefits and need to burn just 1,000 calories a week. This equates to gardening for 30 to 45 minutes, dancing for half an hour, cycling four miles in 15 minutes or jogging 1.5 miles in the same time.

This can reduce impotence by around 38 per cent, the researchers found. And men who burn off up to 4,000 kilocalories a week have their impotence risk drop by almost 52 per cent.

Gardening is in fact gaining popularity in Europe. And some people have become so obsessed that there are now worries that people are getting addicted to the pursuit just like they would to gambling or drugs, a claim which many experts refute.

So guys, do start gardening to boost your sex lives and to pump up the passion in your relationship.

Porn baron Larry Flynt says that the US Government should help rejuvenate the industry, which has been bearing the brunt of the ongoing global economic crisis, with a financial assistance of five billion dollars.

The Hustler magazine founder has even joined forces with ‘Girls Gone Wild’ video series’ creator Joe Francis to approach Congress so as to sustain the same kind of financial aid as was recently approved for automakers.

“Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation’s most important businesses, (and) we feel we deserve the same consideration.

In difficult economic times, Americans turn to entertainment for relief. More and more, the kind of entertainment they turn to is adult entertainment,” the Telegraph quoted Francis as saying in a statement.

“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three. The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion.

Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine,” the paper quoted Owen Moogan, a spokesman for Flynt, as telling CNN.

Francis is also said to have admitted during an interview with the website TMZ that the move is more of a “precautionary measure” than an emergency rescue.

He, however, insisted that “as long as the government is handing out money, we want to be there to take it.”

The pair admit that though DVD sales and rentals have dropped 22 per cent over the past year, online traffic has continued to grow.

“The 13-billion-dollar industry is in no fear of collapse. But why take chances?” they say.

Flynt insists that Americans can do without cars but not without sex, and the only way Congress could “rejuvenate” the country’s sexual appetite was “by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly.”

There was no response from Congress to the request.

Please support this petition which is an effort by our Brother Harris from The People’s Parliament. I have sign it and I’m 100% with Harris on this. I too want Pak Lah to continue as PM till the next elections and I strongly believe no one should elbow Pak Lah out of power.

I hope all who visit my blog would make some effort to sign the petition above.

Finally Malaysian Police says they will work hand in hand with the Immigration authorities and Interpol to investigate Malaysian passports being misused by international criminals, including terrorists

After being in denial for so long they finally admit there is a problem. This is a good sign. In fact Malaysia was the first country in the world to use biometric passports in 1998 and the government was saying at that time that it was full-proof against identity theft, but it was not the case. The government spent millions on this.

According to Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ismail Omar, the misuse of Malaysian passport by international criminals and terrorist was only found out by IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan during an Interpol conference in Russia recently. In that Russian Interpol conference, evidently, Interpol had told Tan Sri Musa that quite a number of Malaysian passports are found to be used by irresponsible people and criminals including terrorists all over the world.

Tan Sri Ismail Omar said this at a seminar at the Police Contingent in Sabah. He also said that the police are looking into who are the people dealing with passports and if local syndicates are cooperating with international syndicates, what are they doing, what is the objective of the misuse of passports, and how many are actually involved.

Tan Sri Ismail Omar also said that if the matter was not taken care of, it will give an impression to the world that there are many syndicates in Malaysia that are out of control.

Asked if passports involved were genuine, Ismail said: “We don’t have the details.. We are working with Interpol to get more accurate data, how many are genuine and how many may be false.”

He also said that this had marred Malaysia’s image.

I believe it is high time the cops start to aggressively combat document fraud and do some serious work on the cases of the falsification of Malaysian documents not only Malaysian passports but also Malaysian Identity Cards and credit cards.

We know nothing is going to be foolproof, but by altering the technology, it is possible to raise our defenses. The harder we make it to forge documents, the greater our gains in protecting our nation. We have to really up the ante as the basic problem is that if a document of any kind can be produced, it can be falsified or forged too. Even the Mumbai terrorist were also said to be carrying Malaysian papers and I have written about it here https://selvarajasomiah.wordpress.com/2008/11/29/how-come-mumbai-terrorist-also-having-malaysian-identity-cards/

kayveas by omongmy.

Pak Lah  has said it very clearly  that PPP can quit  BN if they so wish and the government has no intentions of amending the Internal Security Act [ISA].

You and your PPP’s threat calling for the abolishment of the Internal Security Act [ISA] before the next general erection, oops, sorry! election, or else you would leave BN,  is nothing to UMNO, small matter Mr Kayveas, and, you portraying that UMNO and BN is shaking like a leaf is too much a drama lah.

Sometime back, Umno vice-president cum Chief Minister of Malacca Mohd Ali Rustam while delivering his speech chided your PPP  for “threatening” Barisan Nasional for more seats to contest in the last march general election and he too stressed that PPP could leave the BN fold if it was unhappy. And you were just sitting through the whole speech biting you nails then in Malacca.

So it was Ali Rustum first and now Pak Lah telling you in simple language “you  and PPP is just a piece of shit and it makes no difference if you stay or go”. Sorry the truth hurts Mr Kayveas.

After all these humiliation PPP should leave BN right this minute! Leaving BN is your last saving grace Kayveas.

If  not, be prepared to fade to oblivion. If  BN can tell you outright in your face that you are not wanted, why wait Kayveas? Malu lah to give excuses to stay on.

Kayveas, the writing is on the wall, UMNO wants you out because they feel you are inconsequential in the BN. If you stay they want you to be a slave to UMNO and be subservience to the Ali Rustams and Ahmad Ismails.

PPP has only one route for SURVIVAL…………LEAVE BN NOW!

 JOIN PAKATAN RAKYAT NOW.

By joining Pakatan Rakyat at least come next election PPP will be able to win some MPs in Parliament and maybe even some state seats in Perak.

Be like SAPP, Mr Kayveas! Be a fighter like Yong Teck Lee.  At least Malaysians will respect you after this.

DR  Seenivasagam and SP Seenivasagam will never rest in peace if you do not leave BN after all these humiliation. Do it now before its too late and you will go down in the history books as agent for change together with the Seenivasagam brothers.

Don’t let the masses look at you as a coward and who is only good in giving veiled threats and always hiding behind some sari. You must have the will.  And, of course, freedom is yours, and the BN system is quite ultimately irrelevant as the clock  start ticking.

This is what is meant by a slave to the UMNO, and those that cannot see it are cowards. There is no other way around that Mr Kayveas.
