Nurul Izzah Anwar never fails to amaze and impress me. Meet here only twice but had such a lasting impression on me. To me she is a remarkable young woman and a tremendous role model to all Malaysians. She is full of passion, extremely bright, unbelievably tenacious and exceedingly hard working. I call her the pit bull. When she goes after something she just won’t let go – and that is exactly what she did when Anwar was counting bars in Sungai Buloh. Anwar Ibrahim is such a lucky man to have Nurul as a daughter. Remember, during the time when Anwar was counting bars, Nurul was like a pillar to Kak Wan and family and ALL MALAYSIANS  as she kept the REFORMASI fire burning.

Read here what she has to say to Umno and the Malay extremists, and what the community as a whole needs to understand.

Selamat Merdeka!

I’m fucking stone out of my head right right now. Forgive if I’m writing nonsense. Had tooo much of chemicals… K…Happy5 … Ecstasy and weed. This is the first time I ventured with my friend Ranny and all these chemicals were so easily available in in KK. Never knew all these mind altering stuff was just available over a phone call.

Man I’m totally wracked and brain dead now and I hope I’m writing some sense here so that others don’t end up like me. Had just soo much of chemicals with my friend Ranny……..I am terribly sorry for the revelations of my ‘true’ self and my stupidity. Will try never to become adventurous again. Stupid me!

I am shocked by the action of a few donkeys in Shah Alam in desecrating the head of a cow to protest the relocation of a Hindu temple to their neighborhood. These donkeys are giving Muslims in Malaysia a bad name. How can these donkeys carry out this despicable act just after finishing their Friday prayers?

I’m troubled by the action of these few donkeys as this amounts to incitement of religious hatred.

I call all my Hindu brothers and sisters to remain calm and not to get agitated and overreact and retaliate. Forgive all these stupid donkeys. I dare say the majority of Muslims in Malaysia are not like these few idiotic perpetrators.

Malaysians must condemn the mindless act of the few that chose to bring shame to Islam during this holy month of Ramadhan.

Cool guys!

One Malaysia?

By PHILIP BOWRING

Malaysia is a lucky country but not at present a happy one, a worrying situation for a Muslim-majority nation that needs to balance democracy and free choice with religious and racial harmony.

Malaysia is lucky because its abundance of resources has enabled the economy to keep growing. It is unhappy because its politics are between a rock and a hard place.

Malaysia badly needs a break from 52 years of sometimes authoritarian and corrupt rule by a coalition of race-based parties headed by the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), which controls most levers of power and money.

Yet that change may not come any time soon. The opposition coalition, headed by former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, made huge gains in 2008 elections but is finding it difficult to bridge divisions between Malays in the Islamic Party (PAS), ethnically self-conscious Chinese and Indians in the left-leaning Democratic Action Party, and disgruntled moderate Malays and liberals of all races in Anwar’s Keadilan party.

It’s the month of fasting again. To all my muslim friends, HAPPY RAMADHAN!

Permatang Pasir By-election UPDATES:

I think the aggression by the police was unnecessary, excessive and unwarranted.

My friends were there at Permatang Pasir nomination center and they too had witnessed many instances of overly aggressive police behaviour.

My worries regarding the aggressive stance of the police remain, and the fact that their policing strategy seemed to be based on ramping up levels of tension and violence rather than diffusing it are highlighted once again in this video.

Having said that, this is a different situation-Gobalakrishnan in my opinion should have left it alone. But did he deserve to be humilated and kicked by the cops? I’m still not sure.

The problem is that whether by accident or design, it was the police that were responsible for this state of affairs. So acting in a manner that is commensurate to the mood and tactical situation of their own making muddies the water just a bit doesn’t it?

By-Election fever again in Penang. This time in mainland Penang- Permatang Pasir state seat on August 25th.

Permatang Pasir has always been a PAS stronghold and it falls under the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency helmed by Penang’s favourite son Anwar Ibrahim.

This is going to be a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Rohaizat Othman and PAS’ Mohd Salleh Man.

Barisan Nasional candidate Rohaizat Othman is an ex-lawyer who had been barred from practising because of alleged misappropriation of client’s money in a firm partnered by him sometime ago. In simple language, the BN candidate Rohaizat Othman has been struck of the rolls of the Malaysian Bar. No jokes, this is for real! Rohaizat civil lawyer’s licence had been revoked by the Malaysian Bar Council.

Wonder why UMNO could not get a better chap than this Rohaizat fellow? Isn’t it pathetic that Umno/BN couldn’t find any other person to be the candidate? What kind of caliber of candidate BN is offering Penangites? Is this a joke or what?

You should hear  Tengku Razaleigh’s take on this. Read Ku Li’s “a different set of rule.

Anyway, i’ll offer this open wager to anyone willing to take it. I’ll bet $1,000 (which is rich for me, believe me) that PAS WILL WIN HANDS DOWN IN PERMATANG PASIR on August 25th.

Takers?”

For me, John Elliott is one of the top renowned American journalist based in India and his views on India is definitely worth reading and a must read for any India -Watchers. If we talk about John and his writings on India, it is immediacy, accuracy, and plain old reporting and always delivered with a gentle punch. In one of his articles, he says that Hinduism is the main obstacle to India’s modernisation and liberalisation. How true but the Indians hated it.  He is, at least in my view, the American point of view on India. Some say he works for the American CIA, but I don’t think so.

John Elliot’s latest article “China aims to block India’s place in the sun” can be found in his blog “Riding the Elephant.” Go check it out.

In the Semangat 46 days way back 1988, other than Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah aka Ku Li, I also had great liking and interest for our present day Information, Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim. Thought that Rais must be one smart cookie a thinking person with his PhD from King’s College London and his doctoral dissertation “Freedom Under Executive Power in Malaysia: A Study of Executive Supremacy”, which I read. What a shame, I was so wrong.

Over the years, my interest in Rais started taking a dive and I began to realize that Rais Yatim is just one big pseudo intellectual a showoff who love to use bombastic words and love to shoot from his hip and will do anything to upstage anyone to impress his boss. What a let down man!

Remember, during our Pak Lah’s era this Rais Yatim had even suggested that all Malaysian women who are traveling alone overseas ought to get their family’s permission before leaving Malaysia or else these women may end up as drug mules overseas. Rais even brought this matter up to the cabinet but it was shot down by Pak Lah. What an idiot!

Then again when Malaysia lost to Singapore over sovereignty of Pulau Batu Putih aka Pedra Branca , Rais Yatim told the press that the ICJ’s verdict in The Hague was a ‘win-win’ decision. Joker this Rais! He thinks Malaysians are dumb.

Now, the most recent one is Rais’s proposed internet filter, his bright idea to impose censorship of the internet and his justification for the protecting of the public’s morality and targeting child pornography and pornography in general. This is yet another ‘brilliant’ idea of our Rais. He thinks he is a smart aleck lah.

Thank goodness, Najib Tun Razak our PM was quick to come out with a statement that the government does not intend to do anything of that sort and has denied that there is an effort to filter the internet.

This is sure a slap in the face for Rais in public. Hope he realize what a joker he is. Rais is proving time and time again that he is an embarrassment to Malaysians with his constant idiotic statements.

Should read here for more.
