I never fail to read Malik Imtiaz Sarwar’s articles. His blog “Disquiet”, and weekly column in the Malay Mail, is a never miss for me.
Malik, a fellow Penangite, is a leading Malaysian human rights lawyer and activist and the current president of the National Human Rights Society (HAKAM). Malik is never new to controversy, at one time, there was even a poster circulating all over Malaysia declaring Malik to be a traitor to Islam and calling for his death, because, he was acting as an observer on behalf of the Malaysian Bar Council in the Lina Joy case. Remember Lina Joy, a Muslim woman converted to Christianity.
Malik was also one of the main players who had asked the government to set up a national inter-faith commission.
Read Malik’s latest “Precedential Transitions” a good eye-opener on the anticipated power transition to Datuk Seri Najib Razak by Pak Lah and the appointment which is a matter left entirely to the discretion of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
